The Materials Research Department performs interdisciplinary research covering a wide range of topics from ion-solid interaction, materials under extreme conditions and radiation hardness of materials and ion-track nanotechnology.

The candidate will join the “Ion-Track Nanotechnology” group in the Materials Research Department and work on the DRAHT-KATH project, a project funded by the IGF (Industriellen Gemeinschaftsforschung) and carried out in collaboration with colleagues at The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Center (ZBT) GmbH. The main purpose of the project is the development of innovative cathode structures for PEM fuel cells using electrochemical deposition in combination with ion-track membranes.
Your tasks:
- Development of tailored ion-track membranes and nanochannels
- Electrodeposition and characterization of nanowire assemblies
- Participation in swift heavy ion irradiation experiments at GSI
- Active participation in the assigned tasks of the DRAHT-KATH project
- Reporting, dissemination and publication of obtained results
- Support undergraduate and graduate students in the group.
Your Profile:
- Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related disciplines
- Experience and publication record in the field of electrodeposition
- Experience with material characterization methods (e.g. scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, …)
- Creative, self-driven, and curious
- Excellent communication, organizational and team-work skills.
- Good command of English (spoken and written)
Knowledge is expected in some of the following areas:
- Materials science and nanotechnology
- Fabrication and characterization of nanostructures
- Electrochemical measurements
- Fuel cell research
We offer a position in an international and interdisciplinary research group with leading expertise in the field of materials research with swift heavy ions and ion-track nanotechnology. The postdoctoral researcher will also be part of a bilateral research collaboration with punctual involvement of industrial partners.
The contract is limited to 2 years, starting as soon as possible. The salary is based on the German civil service employees (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst - TVöD (Bund)).
