17 Greek high school students profoundly interested in science from the Senior High School (Lyceum) of Gazi, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, visited GSI and FAIR.
Since 2016, these students call themselves the CURIEosity Team and aim to promote science within their schoolmates’ community, for example by running a workshop on “atoms” for younger pupils. The team also participates into contests like “Beamline For Schools” and “Science on Stage in Greece”. The students are assisted and encouraged by their teacher Astrinos Tsoutsoudakis.
On a tour to outstanding sciences labs in Germany, they spent one day at GSI and FAIR, where they got guided tours to the ion sources, the linear accelerator UNILAC, the ring accelerator SIS18, the experimental storage ring ESR, the superconducting magnet testing facility, biophysics laboratories, the ion beam therapy cave and the FAIR construction site.
