Call for Applications - Research Internship in Science & Engineering

Overview:

RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Professional offers summer research internships in Germany to Master’s and PhD students from the USA, Canada, Great Britain, or Ireland at companies and non-university research institutions with strong ties to industry.

Target Group:

Students who wish to apply must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled Master’s or PhD student
  • Bachelor’s degree holder who is a RISE Germany alumnus at a North American, British, or Irish university (recent graduates between degrees are also eligible depending on the internship)
  • Major in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, earth sciences, or physics.

What Can Be Funded:

Financial Support by DAAD:

  • A monthly scholarship of 492 Euros for Bachelor’s and Master’s students and 800 Euros for PhD students.
  • Travel expenses depending on the country of origin.
  • Health insurance and accident/personal/private liability insurance.
  • For those planning to attend a language course in Germany, DAAD covers 70% of course fees (max. 250 Euros).
  • All scholarship holders are invited to the three-day RISE meeting in Heidelberg at the beginning of July and will receive 160 Euros reimbursement for travel to the meeting.

Financial Support by GSI GmbH:

The company will provide housing support to all students and researchers. Instead of a monthly contribution of 500 Euros, GSI will offer an in-kind contribution of 35 Euros per night, totaling approximately 1,050 Euros per month. This support will be coordinated with the International Cooperation Unit, which will also offer comprehensive administrative assistance to all interns and supervisors, ensuring a smooth and successful experience for everyone involved.

  • Internal proofing/Mathching: until January 13
  • Ranking of Applicants: January 13 – January 24, 2025
  • Annoucement by DAAD: end of February/ middle of March 2025
  • Project start: May 15 2025 or later
