Welcoming PhD Scholar Susan Birmingham to FAIR/GSI under MSCA Staff Exchanges - EPISTEAM
06.03.2026 |
International Cooperations (ICO) at FAIR & GSI proudly hosts Susan Birmingham (she/her), PhD candidate in the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media from the European University of Technology (EUt+) Lab at Technological University Dublin, for an 8-month exchange via the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Episteam Staff Exchanges programme. This is the second visiting researcher from the Episteam project - following Lorenzo Gerbi from Baltan Laboratories (Eindhoven) - which aims to bolster collaboration across science, technology, and the humanities.
Susan’s research discipline is Philosophy of Science and Technology, with a focus on the representation of particular emerging experimental technologies in media discourses, and incorporates methods from media and cultural studies. During her secondment here, she hopes to gain insight into the workings of our advanced research environment, while bridging EUt's European Culture and Technology (ECT) Lab+ expertise on the social and political entanglements of technical and scientific innovation. Susan also plans to draw on her background in artistic practice by designing a small interactive installation on campus, aimed at cultivating interdepartmental conversation on the topic of scientific representation in and outside the lab.
This partnership advances science diplomacy, aligning with our international strategy. Join us for upcoming events showcasing her insights!
MSCA Staff Exchanges Programme: The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Staff Exchanges programme funds short-term (1-12 months) international and interdisciplinary secondments for researchers and staff to build collaborative R&I projects between academic and non-academic organisations. PhD candidates like Susan can apply and qualify if linked to R&I at their home institution. Projects last up to 4 years, covering mobility allowances plus research/networking costs. FAIR & GSI – International Cooperations is one of the beneficiaries of the programme, as is the Technological University of Dublin.
